The finest Classic Rock, Country Rock, to roar out of Zurich Ontario.
“What I am is a ’70s classic rock-oriented person,” singer and guitarist Geoff Masse, of London, says of his role as Geoff Masse Band (GMB) frontman. “We hit base where a lot of other bands don’t. We’re probably the busiest band in London.”
The band plays 140-160 shows a year, counting weddings, bars, festivals, private parties and corporate gigs.
Born in London, Masse grew up in Zurich before returning to London from Huron County.
Now 57, his first big gig was a teenager at a club in Tillsonburg.
Masse (pronounced “Moss”) has opened for such stars as Trooper, April Wine, Sass Jordan, Humble Pie, The Trews. The Road Hammers, The Pursuit Of Happiness, and more.
When he was 18, he led the house band at the old Orchid on Dundas Street.
Masse has also led the house bands at such vanished London landmarks as the Wellington and Old Chicago’s.
“My band is very famous for playing a lot of Canadian content and the one-hit wonders from the ’70s,” Masse says.
Fans who know their Redbone, Wild Cherry and King Harvest will recognize those band’s one hit when it shows up in a GMB setlist.
As for CanCon, fans can expect We’re Here for A Good Time (Trooper), My Own Way To Rock (Burton Cummings) and more.
If the songbook of ex-Guess Who star Cummings spices the GMB setlist, it was another former Guess Who icon who continues to inspire Masse.
“No. 1 has always been (ex-Guess Who) Randy Bachman for me. The second guy who’s probably tied in first with Randy Bachman is Don Barnes of 38 Special,” he says of his two big influences.
“We are blessed. We have a really wicked fan base .… they are very loyal.”
